Affordable, yet exquisite Italian cuisine?
We had never experienced such a combination until our children insisted we try
Saizeriya. Saizeriya, a chain of family-style Italian restaurants originating
from Japan, has over 30 locations in Singapore. Despite the unexpected fusion
of Japanese and Italian influences, the food turned out to be remarkably
delicious.
Saizeriya can be likened to the Italian counterpart of Aston. Its primary
clientele consists of teenagers and families. One notable aspect is its
incredibly reasonable prices. While many renowned food establishments have
fallen victim to the downsizing trend, Saizeriya remains unaffected.
We headed to the PLQ outlet for a meal. While the decor is pretty ordinary, it
was the food we are here for. Given the affordable nature of the menu, we
decided to indulge in a variety of dishes.
Starter
Mushroom Soup $2.90
To begin our meal, we opted for the Mushroom Room, priced at a mere $2.90.
This delightful creamy soup, enriched with button mushrooms, provided the
perfect introduction to our dining experience.
Garlic Focaccia $2.30
To complement the soup, we added Garlic Focaccia.
Appetizer
Oven Grilled Escargots $5.90
Added the Oven Grilled Escargots as an appetizer. While it may not look
glamorous, the garlic and onion mask any lingering scent of the snail. While
it may not be ideal for Escargots lovers, for the price, it is hard to
fault it.
Main Dish
Hawaiian Pizza $7.90
What’s an Italian meal without Pizza?
This Hawaiian pizza may not necessarily win over any food critic; the portion
would suffice for one.
Four Cheese Ravioli $5.90
This traditional pasta is filled with Ricotta, Edam, Gorgonzola and Emmental
Cheese. The generous melted cheese is a delectable experience for your taste
buds.
Bacon & Mushroom Risotto $5.90
Risotto Rice with Bacon and Mushroom. This dish may not leave a lasting
impression, but is is satisfying on its own.
Tuscan Lam Chop $10.90
When it comes to lamb dishes, it’s often a hit or miss. This particular dish
exceeds expectations with tender and easy-to-chew meat. Prices at less than
half the usual cost of lamb dishes elsewhere, it is worth every penny.
Desserts
Pistachio Semifreddo $4.90
We started off the desert with Pistachio Semifreddo. A decent Semifreddo
of Pistachio on a bed of Cocoa Meringue granules.
Chocolate Lava $5.90
The sponge cake does not look like the enticing photo, and the Chocolate is
not as warm as we would like. Not the best of the lot.
Salted Caramel Semifreddo $4.90
This is the best dessert of the lot. It has delicate Meringue filled with
Salted Carmel Semifreddo, decorated with cookie crumbs. The only gripe is that
it looks like it is out from a confectionary rather than a kitchen.
Free Flow Drink Bar $2.90
If you are thirsty, free-flow drinks at $2.90 per pax are worth it. Kids aged
4-12 is at $1.50. Under 3 drinks free.
Verdict
We can see why this Italian resturant attracts a long queue during meal times.
With its affordable price tag, extensive menu and decent food quality, we
reckon repeated visits is on the cards.
