If you’re on the hunt for the best tablet for older kids, the newest model of the Amazon Fire is ideal. The Amazon Fire HD 8 Kids Pro is a full-feature tablet designed for kids aged 6-12 years old, allowing slightly older kids the opportunities to read, learn and play independently – and safely.

Amazon Fire HD 8 Kids Pro

The kid-proof Amazon Fire HD 8 Kids Pro is housed in a kid-friendly case in three bright colours the kiddos will love. The tablet comes with a one-year subscription to Amazon Kids+ Content so they can access thousands of age-appropriate apps, games, books, videos, songs and Audible books, including content from National Geographic, Collins Big Cat and LEGO.

What’s included

  • Black Fire HD 8 (12th generation)
  • Wi-Fi-enabled tablet
  • Kid-Friendly Case with stand
  • Amazon power adaptor
  • USB-C (2.0) charging cable
  • Built-in rechargeable battery
  • One-year Amazon Kids+ subscription (the subscription auto-renews after your free year is up, any problems, visit the Amazon App-store)

What can the Amazon Fire HD 8 Kids Pro tablet do?

Designed specifically with kids in mind, the tablet is super-easy to set up and use, giving kids safe access to the net thanks to the tablet’s adjustable age filters that let you customise the tablet to grow with your child. You can create different profiles and share the yearly Kids+ subscription with up to four children.

The Amazon Fire HD 8 Kid Pro tablet offers kids an expanded content library. Using the tablet’s intelligent parental controls, kids can enjoy even greater access to their favourite websites and films.

This tablet even lets your kiddos stay in touch with family and friends! Children can send announcements and make voice and video calls via Wi-Fi to approved contacts with an Alexa-enabled device or the Alexa app.

Parental controls on the Amazon Fire

The Amazon Fire has some very strict parental controls, so parents don’t have to worry about their children accessing the internet. The web browser is designed with built-in controls to help filter out inappropriate sites, allowing you to block specific ones so that children can browse the web independently but safely.

The Amazon Fire hosts a digital shop whereby children can request games and books, and parents can approve purchases and downloads using the online Parent Dashboard.

At their own discretion, parents can add access to even more apps, such as Minecraft and Zoom so that they can feel in control of their child’s online experience every step of the way.

Can you put Netflix and Disney on an Amazon Fire kids’ tablet?

The answer is yes! Both Netflix and Disney apps are available for download on the Fire Tablet. Head to your Amazon Parent Dashboard to manage your child’s content.

Spec of the HD 8 Kids Pro

Let’s chat about battery life. You’ll want to know you’re investing in something that won’t shut down when you need it most, and the good news? This Amazon Fire ticks that box.  The Amazon Fire HD 8 Kids Pro offers 13 hours of battery life for reading, watching videos and listening to music. Okay, we don’t mean for that 13 hours to be enjoyed on the trot – according to Twinkl, it’s recommended that kids aged 5-17 should limit their screen time to no more than two hours a day – but it means you won’t have to charge your tablet constantly. Based on two hours a day, it’s going to last a week!

When it comes to the techie stuff, the HD 8 Kids Pro has a vibrant 8-inch HD display made from strengthened aluminosilicate glass. Yes. It’s tough – especially combined with its bump-proof case. It’s 30% faster than the previous generation, thanks to an enhanced hexa-core processor, and offers kids crystal clear and immersive Dolby Atmo sound. There’s 2 GB RAM, 32 GB internal storage, and 1 TB of expandable storage, so it’s excellent for downloading all the apps they need to keep them busy. There’s also a 2 MP front and rear-facing camera so that they can snap photos to their heart’s content.

The Amazon Fire HG 8 Kids Pro comes with a worry-free two year guarantee. If the tablet breaks, return it and Amazon will replace it for free.

RRP: £149.99.
