Over the past few years I have seen (mainly from America) lots of ideas for presents from children to other children in their class. I think it is a really sweet idea for them to give a little gift to their friends to show what their friendship means. However, I can completely understand not wanting to spend lots of money on small gifts for a whole class, that is why these homemade melted heart crayons are so perfect. I am sure that you, like me, has a bucket full of old and broken crayons that no one really wants to use, because let’s face it, using new crayons is much better. Or maybe that is just me. Anyway, this is a way to turn those broken crayons into whole new crayons again.
Make sure you follow my valentines day board on Pinterest for more ideas. Don’t forget to save the pin for later.
To make your own melted heart crayons you will need:
- Crayons
- Silicone mini heart molds
Break up your crayons into small bits so that they will fit into your molds. We added different colours to each mold, but you could use the same colour in each mold if you wanted to. Try to fill them up as much as possible, the thicker they are the less likely they are to break when you take them out.

To break them into really small pieces you may need to use a knife to make a groove, then your little ones will find it easier to break them.
Place them in the oven on 100c and wait for them to melt. I actually had to turn up the heat after a while as some of our crayons needed a higher temperature to melt at (which actually surprised me).
Once they have melted take them out and leave them to harden before taking them out of the molds.
To finish them off you could get your little one to add them to small bag with a little note attached.
Happy Valentine’s Day.
