Salt Dough Clothes Fresheners | Nanny Anita

Years ago we made lavender salt dough that could be put into draws and cupboards to make clothes smell nice.  As it has been so long we decided to make some more salt dough clothes fresheners, plus they make sweet homemade gifts to give to friends and family from little ones.

Make sure you follow my gift board on Pinterest for more ideas.  Don’t forget to save the pin for later.

To make these salt dough clothes fresheners you will need:

  • 1 cup of flour
  • ½ cup of salt
  • At least ½ cup of water
  • Fragrance
  • Colouring*
  • Rolling pin
  • Cookie cutters

*I used powdered paint rather than food colouring as it gives it a more vivid colour.

Mix the salt, flour, and colour together.  Slowly add the water with the fragrance in it.  One batch of ours had pine scent and the other batch had Jasmine in it.  You want to mix the ingredients together to form a dough, which is why it is important to add the water slowly, you don’t want it to become a sticky mess.

When it comes together as a dough, kneed it for a few minutes to get it nice and smooth.

Now it is time to roll it out and cut them into shapes.  You don’t want it too thick or too thin, about 1cm should be good.  Remember to make holes in the top if you want have any that can hang up.

Place your decorations on a tray and pop in the oven on 70c for a few hours to dry them out.  If you don’t want to put them in the oven, just leave them somewhere warm for a few days instead.

If you enjoyed making these then be sure to check out Christmas tree salt dough decorations and salt dough marbled decorations.

Pin for later:
