How to host a successful pool party for children

Every parent wants to make their child’s birthday something extra special, especially if they worry about how their child will feel about not celebrating their big day with both parents at the same time. A pool party can be an ideal option if you’re determined to give your child a birthday they’ll never forget, but not everyone knows how to plan a successful one that everyone will enjoy. If you need a helping hand in ensuring your child’s special day goes off without a hitch, consider taking some of the following actions.

Take Care of Pool Health

The main focus of a pool party is the pool, so rely on businesses like HY-CLOR to ensure it’s clean and healthy for your child’s friends. Many of the best pool supply businesses offer a range of products like pumps, filters, chlorinators, and testing equipment for you to ensure the pH and chlorine levels are suitable. It’s also a good idea to use pool clarifying products to avoid water murkiness and algaecides to eliminate any slippery and hazardous algae.

Send Invites Early

The best time to send out invitations to a child’s birthday is within three weeks of the upcoming date. That allows families to check their calendars and ensure they’re available to attend the pool party. You might also like to include your contact information and an RSVP request. When you know how many people are attending your pool party, you can make sure you have enough food, beverages, and fun activities for all.

Prioritise Safety

Hundreds of people drown in Australia yearly, and drowning deaths among children have increased by 9% on a 10-year average. While pool parties are about having fun, always make safety around the water your priority.

Have adults supervising play in the pool, and ask someone to take your place if you’re going to be momentarily distracted. Having a pool ladder for easy entry and exit into the pool and non-slip tiles surrounding the pool can also be crucial. Since you’ll be spending the entire day outside, provide plenty of drinking water, shady areas to rest, and sunscreen. Encourage children to apply sunscreen multiple times throughout the day.

Buy Fun Pool Party Games

Most children love splashing about in the pool and spending time with their friends, but you could take your pool party to an entirely new level with fun pool party games. Giant ring toss is always a favourite, which only needs upwards of two players and one giant inflatable ring toss game. If you have multiple inflatable toys, you could also engage the children in races, with prizes for whoever reaches the side of the pool first. Get creative, as there are many fun and safe games for children to play that can fall within your party budget.

Provide Food and Beverages

You can use up a lot of energy playing and swimming, so ensure all pool party guests have plenty of food and beverages to keep their hunger satiated and thirst quenched. The children are bound to love snacking on fruit kebabs, ice blocks, and sandwiches and washing them down with fruit juice, water, or lemonade.

Consider setting aside dedicated eating time so that children keep food away from the pool and give themselves adequate time before returning to the water.

Offer Out-Of-Water Activities

Not all children feel confident in the water or enjoy swimming or wearing swimwear for extended periods. When your child is inviting a large group of friends, you might like to provide out-of-water activities to ensure everyone is included.

There are plenty of birthday party classics worth considering, such as bobbing for apples, pin the tail on the donkey, and pass the parcel. If you’re unsure about the type of activities the children will love, talk to your child for their input. Giving them some control over the party-planning process might provide them with a sense of pride when their pool party goes off without a hitch.

Put On Music

While your swimming pool can offer an excellent party atmosphere, you can create an environment of fun with some exciting pool party music. Talk to your child about the type of music they love and create a special playlist for them and their friends to dance and sing to while spending time in and around the pool.

Hosting a successful pool party for children doesn’t have to be a time-consuming or stressful process. Once you organise food, put safety first, and know how many children are attending, you might be surprised by how straightforward and easy it can be to host a party your child remembers for years to come.
