The long-awaited launch of the i-Prodigi from Joie’s Signature collection provides parents with an uber-safe long-term car seat solution. Featuring the latest R129 and i-Size safety upgrades and proven by the Swedish Plus Test – the toughest crash test in the business – the i-Prodigi will look after your child from baby to big kid.
Joie i-Prodigi: rear-facing from birth to approx 7 years
Engineered for security and crafted for comfort, the Joie i-Prodigi offers little ones a rear facing seat from birth all the way up to 7 years of age, or 22.5kg. The i-Prodigi is designed to be completely accessible and while it may be big on safety, it’s not a bulky seat. In fact, it’s one of the lightest ERF i-Size car seats on the market, using more aluminum and less plastic, so you don’t need to be a heavyweight wrestler to successfully install it. What’s more, the seat’s sleek frame measures only 44cm wide, which means it’ll fit easily on the back seat of your car.
Easy install
Weighing less than 10kg, the seat was surprisingly easy to unload out of the box and install. As you’d expect, the i-Prodigi benefits from i-Size certification for a guaranteed fit in i-Size approved vehicles.
And with ISOFIX connectors that lock the seat firmly to your car’s anchor points with one quick click, your simple one-time install gives you peace of mind the seat is secure on every journey.

Are rear facing car seats safest?
With its rear-facing design, the i-Prodigi offers 5 times more safety for your precious cargo, especially for newborns with fragile and underdeveloped necks. The seat’s extended 5-point harness will grow with your child all the way up to 22.5kg. One of the biggest concerns with extended rear facing seats is legroom, and how comfortable the seat will be for your child on long or very frequent journeys. Fear not. The seat’s deep shell and extendable rebound bar offer plenty of legroom, so older kids can stretch out and enjoy more room as they grow.
In the event of a collision, the seat shell of a rear facing car seat acts as a protective shield that absorbs impact energy, spreading the force of the impact across the whole large area of the child’s back, head and neck, so the child endures less strain on their neck. Joie’s i-Prodigi meets the highest ECE R129/03 safety standards, including side impact testing. In fact, superior safety is key to the design of i-Prodigi. High-tech Intelli-FitTM memory foam fills the Tri-Protect headrest to absorb shock in the event of an impact, and there are detachable Guard Surround Safety™ pods to provide extra side impact protection for added security for the head, body and hips. (They can be removed if you need the extra space in the back.)
And while we’re on the subject of safety, there can be absolutely no doubt the i-Prodigi has been put through its paces, passing one of the world’s highest safety standards, the Swedish Plus Test.
What is the Swedish Plus Test?
The Swedish Plus Test is the toughest car seat test around, and only rear facing car seats can pass it. The idea of the Swedish Plus Test is that no child sitting in a Plus Test-approved car seat would sustain any severe or life-threatening injuries in the event of a collision, so you can be sure your child is safe on every journey.
Luxurious and comfortable
Machine washable (oh-so-important!), plush, deluxe cushioning and knit fabrics will keep kids cosy while extra built-in ventilation on back and sides of the seat provides comfortable airflow, so there’s no need to worry about your little one overheating.
We’ve already mentioned the benefits of the i-Prodigi’s extendable rebound bar, and that, coupled with the seat’s fuss-free 8-position recline provides instant comfort to facilitate those all-important nipper naps. The Grow-Together headrest and harness system adjusts into one of eight positions simultaneously, with just one hand – so no fiddly rethreading is necessary. And thanks to Joie’s removable inserts that snap in a variety of customisable configurations, the i-Prodigi offers the ultimate luxury for little loungers.
Say goodbye to twisted straps and they’ll be no more scrummaging around for the buckle underneath bottoms! Buckling up is a breeze thanks to the magnetic buckles that keep the seat’s padded harness straps conveniently out of the way while your pint-sized passenger climbs aboard. Not to mention the easy peasy one-pull motion of the 5-point harness, so you can be sure your child is seated securely, without having to use every ounce of strength in your being to pull it tight enough.
Joie’s i-Prodigi Signature Collection in Eclipse is available at Mamas & Papas. RRP £575.
