When was the last time you went to Bedok Marketplace?
Bedok Marketplace was almost a dead spot when I lived around the area more
than a decade ago. Back then, the only reason to be here is Giant. There were
also a couple of good eateries lining up around Bedok Marketplace, but the 2nd
floor was almost deserted save for a couple of hawker stores.
Fast forward a decade later, Bedok Marketplace has done something I wish I
could… age gracefully. The gut of the 2nd floor has been removed and
replaced with a retro-looking facade and a cosy atmosphere.
It is still a hawker centre but has moved forward with the times. It has been
revamped for some time but is still pretty low-key and unknown.
While it is a hawker centre, the high ceiling makes for exceptional good
ventilation. The hawker stall’s facade is also attractive as it resembles an
old shophouse.
In terms of food selection, they had infused a touch of modern stalls helmed
by a mix of old and young generations. You have stalls like the famous Founder
Bak Kut Teh, Zhi Char, Nasi Lemak, Japanese food, Thai food, western food,
egg-fried rice and even a pizza stall.
In terms of variety, there is something for everyone to eat. If you are
looking for carrot cake, Hokkien mee, or even chicken rice, this may not be
the right place. Bedok Marketplace is definitely one to explore if you want
something different from the usual hawker fare.
We did not get to review the individual stalls here, but not to worry. With the wide array of food choices, it is almost certain that we will be back!
